Victor Dissel
Multimedia artist
Reflect is a mixed-media installation that uses sound frequencies to create visual patterns on a water surface. The installation makes the invisible visible by exposing water to sound. In Reflect, Dissel searched for a simulatable form of natural patterns – of water, sound and movement – that come together into one interdependent system. This is part of a larger movement in Dissel’s work; an exploration of our connection to nature. Reflect explores the interaction between sound vibrations and the human body, which is 70% water. It also raises the question of what sound pollution does to the aquatic ecosystem.
Victor Dissel is a Dutch multimedia artist, composer and co-founder of art festival We Are Water. Dissel is mainly known for his audiovisual installations, in which he examines the interventions between humans and nature. He aims to make natural patterns and processes tangible, by using a combination of light, sound and natural elements. Within these immersive rituals, he dreams of a ‘Symbiocene’, an era in which man, nature and technology form the ultimate balance together. Previous projects have found recognition at Amsterdam Dance Event, Monopol Berlin, Orbit Festival, Uncloud, TivoliVredenburg, Into The Woods, Museumnacht, kunsthal KAdE.
